Painting - Printing - Drawing
The Arts Cabins is proud to host classes and workshops by some of the regions best working artists.
Leslie Cheney Parr
"I work primarily on paper in many media. The watercolor paintings are done on location and in the studio . The studio pieces are the result of sketches and studies and come to be realized in paint only after many hours of work. The landscapes are the product of on location or plein air painting and sketching. With these works, the feeling is more immediate and the painting style very free and direct."
"My printed works reflect my appreciation of natural subject matter as well. With linoleum or reduction work the shape seems to dominate. I really enjoy the strong shapes and the power of limited color choices. With the etching process the delicacy of value contrasts, half-tone cross hatching are more prominant. With monotypes or monoprints, the brush stroke and line convey the energy that I like. Color is very important in these works. But with all my printed works there is still a strong connection to the image recorded. These works begin by direct observation the same way my paintings begin.
Every work begins from an emotional connection first and, like “love at first sight”,it is the intensity of this visual beginning that I must record. So of course I sketch, and sketch and sketch!!
